So, what exactly are dark circles? The area under the eyes that appear darker due to constricted blood vessels that causes hyperpigmentation or from thinning of the skin around the eyes. They may appear as shades of blue, purple, brown or black, depending on one’s natural skin tone. If this condition worsens, it could have a huge negative effect on one's personality. Some days, just wearing a concealer does the job right, but on other days the stubborn panda-eye-effect can be quite challenging to deal with! Using a concealer is certainly not a permanent solution. The condition must be addressed at the root cause. While every individual responds differently to various remedies, the underlying problem must be identified and addressed at the earliest. Let's start by understanding some of the common causes of dark circles under the eyes.
1. Lack of Sleep
The most common cause of dark circles under the eyes is lack of sleep. Sleep deprivation can be tough on your skin and most importantly your under eyes, resulting in persistent dark circles! So, getting at least 7-8 hours of sleep is a must if you want to get rid of dark circles.
2. Dehydration
We can not emphasize more on the importance of water intake that can not just improve the overall skin health, but also fight under-eye dark circles! Regularly hydrating yourself will work wonders for the under-eye area and prevent dark circles from resurfacing. Keep sipping some water all day to stay hydrated!
3. Genetics
According to studies, the under-eye problem can be hereditary, and getting rid of them can be a real challenge. A suitable remedy can be identified based on what suits your skin to finally get rid of those pesky dark circles!
4. Over Exposure to Sunlight
Excessive exposure to the sun triggers your body to produce more melanin and can cause the appearance of under eye dark circles. Always keep your sunblock handy to protect your skin from harmful UV rays.
5. Lifestyle Factors
What you put inside your body reflects on the outside. To keep under-eye dark circles at bay, avoid factors such as smoking, stress, and excessive alcohol consumption. Switch to a healthy lifestyle and stay away from junk food. Practice yoga, exercise and other forms of physical workout to increase blood circulation in the body.
6. Aging
The bitter truth of life is that youth does not last forever. As you hit the big 30, not only does the fear of wrinkles ruin your peace of mind, but also the fear of under-eye dark circles! As you age, the skin below the eyes begins to loosen and thin out. Due to this the blood vessels under the skin may become more visible, leading to a darkened appearance of the under eyes.

To look and feel its best, the body needs to be nourished with all the necessary vitamins and minerals. As not enough oxygen reaches the body’s tissues, iron deficiency can become the underlying cause of under eye dark circles! If your body lacks essential nutrients and vitamins, consult a professional.
8. Eyestrain
How much binge watching is too much binge watching? Spending long hours in front of the screen either watching your favorite shows or working can make the dark circles more prominent. This strain causes blood vessels around your eyes to enlarge, resulting in dark circles under your eyes.
9. Allergies
Allergic reactions can become one of the reasons for dark circles too. The urge to rub and itch the skin around the eyes causes the blood vessels to dilate and become more visible beneath the skin, leading to dark circles.
